William "Bill" Charles Phillips, 84, died on February 05, 2023. Bill was born October 25, 1938 to William Chapman Phillips and Mary Jean Stewart in Globe, Arizona. Bill attended kindergarten with his “Uncle Del” at George Washington School, where they grew a strong bond. He later attended Globe High School, where he was the quarterback of the 1956-1957 State Championship football team with his cousin Gary and Uncle Del. While attending Globe High School, he met the love of his life, Melva Joyce Darby. After graduation, Bill married Melva, and joined the Navy for two years before coming home to Globe. Bill and Melva went on to have five children. He moved his family to Half Moon Bay, for several years, where he worked in the shipping yards before starting his own company. Eventually, Bill and Melva returned to Globe, AZ, with their family, where they put down their final roots. They lived a wonderful life together, almost inseparable, until her passing in 2017. Bill could be found at all of his children's sporting events, playing golf with his kids, or riding their horse named Secret, which they hid from Melva for over a year. Bill was a devoted father, grandfather and friend. He looked forward to visits from his grandkids where he instilled in them his love for life, and the importance of family. Bill was preceded in death by both of his parents, two brothers and his wife, Melva. He is survived by his five children; Susan Weire, Julie (Frank) Zupancic Todd (Doreen) Phillips, Greg (Toni) Phillips, and Anita (Jeff) Roth; his 22 grandkids, 50 great grand kids, 15 great-great grandkids and numerous other friends and family members. Bills love and guidance will remain with all that knew him forever. “His wings were ready; our hearts were not.” Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 9:00-10:00 A.M. at Living Waters Community Church in Globe, Arizona.
