In Loving Memory of Vincent Porter
We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Vincent Porter. He was known by many nicknames including Grandpa Van, the Pink Panther, and his Chinatown Champs nickname “Little Evil”. Vincent was born on November 20, 1938, in San Carlos, Arizona to Mary Kinney-Porter and Henry Porter Sr. He was the oldest of 8 children. Vincent attended Peridot Lutheran School in Peridot, Arizona where he graduated high school. After high school Vincent held several jobs including log cutter at the sawmill, working at the tribal store and on the fence crew, just to name a few.
Vincent was a man of few words who enjoyed living a simple and humble life. He enjoyed reading, walking, visiting with family members, drinking coffee, and watching wrestling. He was a very intelligent man and known by family for his extensive vocabulary. Vincent lived most of his life in Chinatown where he could usually be found lounging outside under his shade, reading a book or a newspaper. He could also be found at Riverside sitting under his favorite tree. Another one of his past-times was watching wrestling. One of his favorite wrestlers was Rick Flair. He would always request to watch wrestling during his visits to his daughter Vanette’s house, and after moving in with her in his later years, he never missed an episode.
As Vincent began to age, he moved in with his daughter Vanette. He began attending church and he would be dressed and ready to go early on Sunday mornings. Vincent lived a long and happy life and was blessed with many years. He entered rest on April 27, 2023, at Haven Health in Globe, Arizona.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mary Kinney-Porter and Henry Porter Sr, siblings Loretta Porter, Lannix Porter, Marthalene Goode and Ferfillia Porter, and his grandson Nathan Subris. He leaves behind his only child Vanette Bourke, his siblings Angelita Porter, Lolita Bendle, and Henry Porter Jr., his grandchildren Jacob Bourke and Nadine Moses, great-grandchildren Kiera Thompson, Noah Moses and Eden Moses, among many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
