Vincent Foti, 86, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but always said his life began when he moved to Arizona in 1970 and met his wife-to-be, Jo (Hardt) Powers. One of six children, Vince was born in 1937 at the University of Pennsylvania hospital.
After his discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1961, Vince became a computer programmer. It was a lucky choice. Not only was he good at it, but he also met Jo there, in 1970, when both were programmers for Sperry Flight Systems, now Honeywell. Later, both worked for APS. They married Feb. 8, 1986. Jo (Hazel Jo Hardt), who died four years ago, was one of four children of the late Senator “Bill” and Athia Hardt, of Globe. Though Vince couldn’t avoid the political activism the marriage brought to him, he most enjoyed their mutual love of family gatherings and travelling. He also became involved in planning reunions for the Globe High Class of 1955.
Jo had two children, Lee and Richard Powers, by a previous marriage, and four grandchildren, Nicole Ramirez (Frank), Skyler Powers, Alisha Powers and David Russin. A fifth grandchild, Parris, died as a baby. She also had three great-grandchildren, Kaden, Grant, and Frankie. Vince loved them all, and they loved him back. Besides playing with his grandkids, Vince also loved building things, was a master at fixing cars and computers. His schematics for construction and repair are legendary in the family.
Vince had five siblings—Philip, Robert, Paul, Elaine and Theresa. Two survive him—Robert Foti and
Theresa McGroarty. In addition, he is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, including Chris McGroarty of Globe.
