Silas Carlos Newton, Sr.
October 25, 1939-December 17, 2022
In a turn of events that may seem very sudden to us, but in keeping with God’s perfect plan and timing, Silas Carlos Newton, Sr. was taken home to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, surrounded by family members, after a brief battle with illness.
Silas Carlos Newton, Sr. was born on October 25, 1939 in Bylas, Arizona. Silas grew up in Navajo Point while attending Bylas Day School and Fort Thomas Schools. Silas met and married Blossom Stanley Newton after High School. Together, they had two children; Silas Carlos Newton, Jr. and Stephanie Rose were born.
Through the years, Silas was employed by the Ash Creek Cattle Association, Magma Mine in Superior, Arizona as an underground miner, Fort Thomas School District as a bus driver, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and BHP mine as a haul truck driver in Miami, Arizona. BHP mine is where Silas spent 25 years, enjoying his job as a haul truck driver. Silas would say he got to know some of the businesses of Globe during his travel to and from work at BHP. Silas retired from BHP in 1998.
Silas kept busy after retirement. His hobbies included hunting, hiking, running, welding, raising cattle and horses, driving his 4-Wheel drive trucks, playing guitar, and attending church.
