Saralyn W. Hooke

Saralyn Wesley Hooke was born at the Indian Hospital in San Carlos, to her late father Edmund Wesley and late mother Saraphina Hunter on August 5, 1961. She attended our Savior’s Lutheran School in Bylas Arizona, and graduated from East Fork Lutheran High School in Whiteriver Arizona. She enlisted October 5, 1979 in the Army National Guard and was Honorable Discharged on October 4, 1985. She pursued her educational goals and achieved her Associates of Science in Sociology/Psychology from Eastern Arizona College, Bachelors of Science in Education with an emphasis in Psychology; a Masters of Education in Bilingual Multicultural Education with an emphasis in Structured English Emersion Reading from Northern Arizona University, and second Masters of Science in Education for Continuing Education k-12 Curriculum Instruction and Development Research Pedagogy in Bilingual Education from Northern Arizona University. Through 30 years of her life she was a teacher for the San Carlos Apache Tribal students. She taught in many aspects of Education from k-12 to building an Adult Education program for the Inee Bich’o Nii; Temporary Assistant of Needy Family program. Besides her education success she was also Miss San Carlos Rodeo Queen, Bylas Rodeo Queen, 1981/82 Miss San Carlos Apache, and 1982 First Runner Up to Miss Indian Arizona. In her life she was a cowgirl competing in many rodeos as a barrel racer, break away roper and team roper. She had a passion to train barrel racing horses and shared this unique ability with young girls who wanted to learn. Her main purpose in life was to share God’s word. She was a minister ordained by Bishop Samuel Harris, of the San Carlos Miracle Church. Her and her husband started the Cowboy Ministry Church in 2007 in Peridot, Arizona. She served the Lord as she traveled throughout Indian Country teaching at various revivals and churches. Her heart belonged to her family: her husband Pastor Simon Hooke, Gilson Wash Councilman, Crystal and Shawn Pietila, Blanche Hooke, Tranpas Hooke, Kevin Goode, Terricita Goode, Diondre Hooke, Shanice Chatlin and Sophia Yazzie; her grandchildren; Savannah Pietila, Tamia Pietila, Michael Pietila and Conner Goode; her sisters Victoria Wesley-Randall, and Carol Wesley-Hunter and her many relatives and in-laws. Her godchildren; Darlene Leslie, Tashianna Roy, Viviana Talgo, Nicole Sanchez, Destiny Key, Andrew Bush, Kiyiin Fasthorse, Debbie Davis, Mercedes Goseyun, Aliya James, Ken Church, Kris Church, Kevin Church, Kobe Church, Timisha Smith, Celiah King, and Andrea Russel. She was preceded in death by her mother Saraphina Hunter-Wesley, her father Edmund Wesley, her brothers; Vernon Lucky Wesley, Edmund Wesley Jr., Wes Martin Wesley and Eddie Logan Wesley; her sisters Verlene Sharon Wesley and Elaine Sue Wesley, her niece KC Sharon Randall and one goddaughter; Christy Bendle. Her death is mourned by many friends, many relatives and so many students she taught throughout her life.
