Sandra Sue Millet Mellor passed away in her home August 7, 2021. She was born in Bell, CA on November 28, 1942 to Cleone Murphy and Anthon Sanders Millet.
After graduating from high school, she attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT where she met the love of her life, Lawrence Mellor. She graduated from BYU with a degree in Elementary Education in 1964 and began teaching 1 st grade while waiting for Lawrence to return from his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in Brazil. Upon his return, they became engaged the next day and were married on July 16, 1965 in the Los Angeles Temple. She continued to teach to support Lawrence through dental school until he graduated in 1970.
Sandra was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. She served in many callings, including Relief Society President and Young Women’s counselor but her favorite was always teaching the little children in Primary. She loved watching them grow up and telling them how they were still her “Primary kids,” even as adults. Since they were in the same ward for 47 years, that included just about everyone. Once most of her children had moved away from home, she and Lawrence were called to be Temple Workers in the Mesa, AZ temple and it was the highlight of her week. She would often speak of how wonderful it felt to do the Lord’s work on a weekly basis.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to sew, quilt, read, cook, scrapbook, draw and play with her kids and grandkids. She would do anything to help those around her and was especially devoted to taking care of Lawrence, who struggled with the painful symptoms of multiple sclerosis for nearly five decades. Everything she did was for her husband, kids and grandkids. Her beloved Lawrence passed away less than three weeks ago, and she was so heartbroken. Her family knows they have had a joyful reunion.
She leaves behind four sons: Derek (Julie) of Snowflake, AZ; Curtis of Mesa, AZ; Matthew (Kezhia) of Hollister, CA; Jordan of Salt Lake City, UT; three daughters: Marisa (Jon) of Salt Lake City, UT; Jeannette (Dan) of Globe, AZ; Kristin (Kindle) of Mesa, AZ; sister Maureen Smith of Saratoga, Springs, UT; and brother Don (Carol) of Las Cruces, NM; twenty-four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Anthon Sanders and Cleone Millet and her husband, Lawrence Hale Mellor.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Lawrence Mellor to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.
