Celia Inez Sandoval (Sally Flores), passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born on January 22, 1934, to Pedro "Pete" Gonzales Flores and Francisca "Panchita" Melendez Gallegos. Sally was born and raised in Globe and graduated in 1953 from Globe High School.
Sally married the love of her life Jimmy Anuria Sandoval on January 19, 1957, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Globe, but lived and raised their three children in Miami, Az until 1975 when she returned to Globe. They were married for 66 years. She is survived by her loving husband Jimmy Sandoval, daughters Vickie Jean (Bobby) Gonzalez, Christine Sandoval (Louie) Holguin, and son Mark James (Misty) Sandoval. 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Her sister Cuca Dunavent, and many nieces and nephews.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents Pete and Francis Flores, sisters Trinidad Munoz and Rosie Flores and a brother Pedro Jr. Flores.
Sally had numerous jobs throughout her life in Arizona and California, but Arizona was her home. While she was working at Gila General Hospital as an aide, she was given the opportunity to work as the Activities Coordinator in their Long-Term Care Unit, enjoyed working with the residents and stayed working for 19 years. The residents would say "Sally is the sunshine of our day". She was the first recipient to receive the Dr. Friest Humanitarian Award in 1982. Sally went to work at Heritage Health Care Center in 1991 when Gila General Hospital closed. She worked as the Activities Coordinator there for another four years. She retired, but decided to go back to work at Cobre Valley Community Hospital where she worked part time in the Physical Therapy Department and working the Swing Bed Program. She retired for good in 2002.
Sally was President of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 1441 in Miami, Az (1997-1978), and the Globe Post 1704. She was also a Eucharistic Minister for Holy Angels Catholic Church since 1982, she felt privileged and enjoyed ministering to the ill, the homebound, and people in the local hospitals. She volunteered to help with craft projects for the religious classes at Holy Angels School and enjoyed sewing items for the church.
Sally had many hobbies; crocheting, quilting, cooking, baking, sewing, reading, and gardening. She also loved traveling and seeing new places with her sisters, friends, and the church groups. Dancing, parties, and having fun was what mom enjoyed. Throughout their married life Jim & Sally led Marcha's for Weddings. During the years her oldest granddaughters were in high school (1993-1999), they did the Marcha's and even a couple years after the girls graduated. Everyone that met mom felt at home. She welcomed everyone and anyone into her home with love and grace. When they left mom's home, they knew they had a place to visit for life.
Sally's greatest joy was her family and holidays. She always decorated for the holidays; Valentine's, Easter, Thanksgiving, but Christmas was always moms favorite, decorating the whole house, inside and out. Santa would come on Christmas eve, some of her kids and grandkids would stay the night (all the rooms would be full), wake up Christmas morning to eating breakfast with everyone and opening gifts, enjoying "Nana's" /" Abuelas" cookies. Mom loved playing games, but especially playing "Rummy 500" with her kids and grandkids.
Since 2018, Sally has battled with Lung Cancer and stayed strong and positive until her passing.
Sally is deeply loved by her family and will be missed very much.
