United States Army Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Osmund Fairfield, Jr., passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023, at the age of 91. A life-long Miami, AZ resident, Osmund was raised by his maternal grandmother, Rose Diaz along with his uncle Jose Fairfield, aunt Herminia Mansour, Uncle John Mansour. Active in Miami Vandal basketball and football. He was a graduate of Miami High School class of 1950. He married Doreen Ralph and created a home for his wife and two children in Little Acres. Osmund’s service to his community, country, and family was at the heart of all he did. He was active in the Boy Scouts as a troop leader teaching his son David—along with several other Globe/Miami boys— skills of service and survival. Additionally, he served as a volunteer patrolman with the Arizona Highway Patrol. Osmund served more than 45 years in the US Army reserves, including serving in Desert Shield/Storm. He graduated first in his class at Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Fort Benning, Georgia. He went on to train countless soldiers during his illustrious military career. He retired from the military in 1994, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Rose Diaz, aunt Herminia Mansour, Uncle John Mansour, mother-in-law Dorothy Ralph, sister-in-law Marjorie Priest, father-in-law William Ralph, Uncle Jose Fairfield, and grandson, Michael McKelvy. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 69 years Doreen Fairfield, sisters-in-law Christina Brokaw and Susan Kurtz, son David (Cynthia) Fairfield, daughter Debra (Paul) Sykes, grandchildren Daniel (Chrissy) McKelvy, Nicole Fairfield, Jonas Fairfield, Stephen (Monica) McKelvy, along with great-grandchildren Chase McKelvy, Desiree McKelvy, Hailey McKelvy, Eliana McKelvy, and little Daniel McKelvy as well as one great-great-grandson, Easton Epley. Services are tentatively set for 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the High Desert Middle School Auditorium for a Celebration of Life with Military Honors to follow.
