Nikki Maria Wampole, 33, Beloved Sister, Friend, and Artist
(Tempe, AZ) - Nikki Wampole, a radiant light who brought joy and laughter to everyone she met, passed away unexpectedly on January 4th at the age of 33, due to complications from epilepsy, a condition she battled bravely her entire adult life. Born in Globe, Arizona to Wayne and Linda, Nikki grew up as the feisty baby sister to Shanna, who’s example of strength and humor were the building blocks for so much of who she became; played in the dirt with Joey, who instilled in her a fierce competitiveness, by simply treating her as equal, so she never saw her size or being the only girl in the race as factor; and was never far from Jesse, a statement that held true until her last breath. Though not born on the same day, the term twins were often used, though everyone knew there wasn’t a word strong enough to describe the connection they share and the love for each other, no matter what.
Even facing the challenges of epilepsy, Nikki relentlessly lived life to the fullest. She was a passionate softball player throughout her childhood and college, and even when her health made it difficult to be outside, she found solace and strength in music. Whether belting out her favorite Stevie Nicks tunes at home or crowd surfing at a rock show, music was her refuge.
Nikki's creativity knew no bounds. She was a talented artist across multiple mediums, with the unique ability to tell a story without words through her art. Her pieces were both technically skilled and deeply evocative, leaving a lasting impression on all who saw them.
A natural caregiver, Nikki showered her two cats with love, treating them as her own children. And to her nieces and nephews, she was the beloved Aunt Nikki, or perhaps the even more special "Nik." Inside jokes were her love language, each one a tiny thread weaving her into the fabric of someone's life. But most of all, she loved to laugh. And her laugh – loud, infectious, and full of pure joy – will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her.
No matter the struggles she faced, Nikki's inner strength was unmatched. She lifted the spirits of others with her unwavering positivity and inspired countless people simply by getting through the day. Her love was unconditional, her courage immeasurable, and her impact on the world undeniable.
Nikki is survived by her parents, Wayne and Linda of Globe, siblings Shanna of Tucson, Felicia of Bellingham, James (Joey) of Santan Valley, and Jesse, with whom she shared a home within Tempe, along with several aunts, uncles, more cousins than you could count, nieces and nephews, friends in every corner of the planet, and 2 cats, Diego and Paco.
Nikki may be gone, but her light will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched. Her music will play on, her art will inspire, and her infectious laugh will forever be a reminder of the incredible woman she was. And in times like these, remember, “There’s no Crying in Baseball.”
