Michael Salazar was born on January 28, 1959, in Globe, Arizona to Andres Salazar and Helen Barela. Michael attended and graduated from Globe High School in 1977 and was recognized and earned prestige from the State of Arizona as a Certified Welder. He was a self-taught iron fabricator who loved designing gates, handrails, and furniture. During his time with the City of Globe, Michael designed and built all of the park benches throughout the downtown area.
Michael devoted 37 years to the local mines as a diagnostic mechanic and welder. Michael had a true passion for speed boats and was considered a “Legend” on the water. His love for Roosevelt Lake was in his blood and he passed this love down to his children and family. He spent hours painting and working on boats and through the help of his nephew Jake was able to fulfill a lifetime dream and race at Firebird. Michael’s love for the outdoors was shared with close friends as he spent time camping and riding in his beloved Razor.
Michael was an affectionate man who loved to kiss and hold each of his babies and was so very proud of all of his children and grandchildren. We will always remember Michael’s unconditional love, selfless helping hand, and understanding heart. He was a true Warrior for God and a blessing in this world. He will be deeply missed but kept in our memories and hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife Shelly Salazar, mother Helen Salazar, children Alissa (Robert) Velasquez, Marques (Danielle) Perez, Nichole (Jason) Steveson, Jessica (Andrew) Gatewood, Candace Van Haren, and Brady Van Haren. Sisters Roseann Steinmetz, Janice Hernandez, 10 grandchildren and 2 ½ great-grandchildren.
Michael is preceded in death by his father Andres “Andy” Salazar and brothers Andy Salazar, Jr., Tim Salazar, and John Trojanovich, Jr.
