Mavis Kenton 65 of Peridot passed away Saturday evening June 15,2019 at the San Carlos Apache Hospital. Mavis was born April 20, 1954 in San Carlos to Daniel and Alline Johnson Dili, she was the oldest of 3 children, followed by her 2 sisters, Betty Bendle and Joann Rustin. When Mavis was 6 years old, her mother Alline had passed and was raised by her grandma, Alice Jackson. Mavis attend Peridot Mission School, and finished her Junior High at TR (Theodore Roosevelt) in Fort Apache. In High School Mavis attend Stewart Indian High School in Carson City, Nevada for 4 years, she later continued her education at Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence, Kansas, graduating with 2-year degree in Business. Mavis met Leroy at a young age, when they were both teenagers. Leroy always told their children and grandchildren on how he met their mom/grandma, he would say, he roped her and that’s how he got her. Leroy and Mavis attend High School and College together, both graduating on the same day, they were married on November 18, 1973, together they have 5 children, Jonathan Savage, Joy Evangelista, Christy Talgo, Rodney Kenton and Cindy Kenton and 10 grandchildren, 4 traditional God-daughters’, the late Cornelia Randall-Kinney, Vanessa Hunter-Moses, Susan Bylas-Gutierrez and Tammie Lee-Pina and 1 god daughter by baptism, Cheyanne “Lil-Fawn” Moses. Mavis and Leroy help raised Alista Thorne since the age of 1 years old. Anyone that knew Mavis, knew she loved spending her free time at the casino gambling for hours, whenever she would win, she enjoyed sharing her winnings. Mavis was known as a caring and loving friend she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mavis always enjoyed cooking for her family, she loved her traditional foods and always taught her granddaughter’s how to cook. Mavis first started working at Rice School, then under the San Carlos Apache Tribe at the Health Department as a Secretary. She later landed a job in 1988 under the Government as a Medical Clerk at San Carlos I.H.S. where she retired after 27 years and transferred to the San Carlos Apache Health Care Cooperation. Mavis is proceeded in death by her beloved grandson, whom she missed dearly, Brandon “BamBam” Talgo, her parents, Daniel Dili & Alline Johnson Dili, her grandma, that raised her Alice Jackson.
