Manuel Gale Haywood was born on February 19, 1928 in Bismarck, Missouri and passed away on February 21, 2019 in Tucson Arizona at the age of 91. He was surrounded by his family and will be tremendously missed. His immediate family always called him “Papa”. His parents Clarence and Stella, his sister Lucille Wilhelms, his brother Willard and his grandson Ryan Joseph Haywood preceded Manuel in death. Manuel was married to Mary Louise Wadlow in 1949 and they had two sons, Manuel Kevin and Douglas Gale. Manuel and Mary moved to Globe in 1950 where he was drafted into the Army, serving in the Infantry from January 1952 to December of 1953. He was stationed in Germany until mid-1953. He was a carpenter by trade and began working for Schwarts Lumber Company in Miami, AZ soon after being discharged from the US Army in the early 1950s as an apprentice finally becoming a journeyman carpenter where he worked on numerous construction jobs in the area with his brother Willard and his brother-in-law Bee Wilhelms. There probably isn’t a structure in Globe-Miami that he didn’t have a hand in building, remodeling or maintaining in some fashion. He always took the time to point those out to his sons and grandchildren. Manuel was also the recording secretary for the Local Carpenter’s Union. In the mid-1950s Manuel began working for Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co. on the railroad as a brakeman. From there he went to work at Copper Cities and finally Pinto Valley Copper Co. where he retired as the Utility Shop Foreman in 1991 with 25 years of service. Manuel was always an avid outdoorsman, finding every opportunity to fish and hunt with his sons and family. You could always find Manuel tinkering with a car, or helping others with a project whatever that might be. He was a life long member of the First Baptist Church in Lower Miami. During his retirement years Manuel continued to hunt, fish and tinker with cars. Always one to have a project he never turned down a request for help from anyone that asked. But his biggest joy was his grandchildren. Manuel is survived by his wife Mary, his sons Kevin (Shawn) and Douglas (Amy), his grandsons Kevin Jonathan Haywood (Allison) and Andrew Douglas Haywood, his granddaughter Samantha Erin Haywood and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Manuel will soon be a great-grandfather with the birth of his great granddaughter, Charlotte in April. His family and his many friends in the Globe-Miami area will miss Manuel sorely. Graveside Services will be held at Globe Cemetery on Sat. March 2, 2019 at 10:00 A.M.
