Leon Delson McAfoose passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on May 7, 1937, at home in Adrian, Pennsylvania, Leon attended a one-room schoolhouse in rural western Pennsylvania. He graduated from East Brady High School in 1955. Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Army for his first hitch, which he completed honorably in 1960. He then joined for a second hitch and completed his X-Ray Procedures Basic Course in 1961 before his honorable discharge in 1964.
After the Army, he left Pennsylvania for Phoenix, Arizona, where he met his wife of fifty years, and worked for many years as an X-Ray Technician at the Maricopa County Hospital, the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and the Indian Health Services Hospital at San Carlos, Arizona. In the 1980s, he moved his family to Globe, where he lived on and off until his death.
Outside of work, he enjoyed road trips, camping, hunting, and exploring Arizona’s beautiful back roads. Possessed of a remarkable memory, he also enjoyed reading poetry, the classics, and fiction by John Steinbeck and James Michener.
He was preceded in death by parents Raymond and Ruby McAfoose, wife Anita McAfoose, son Charles McAfoose, and siblings Rachel Anthony (Hal), Raymond McAfoose, and Betty Martin (John).
