Dustin Noel Ferreira, age 46 of San Carlos, Arizona, passed away on May 13 th , 2023, in Peridot, Arizona. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center to Frederick Ferreira Jr. and Lillie Nelson Ferreira.
Dustin, known by family and friends as “Roo/Roo Bear”, was liked by many. He liked hanging out with friends and family members.
Roo attended elementary school in San Carlos for several years, then ventured off to Globe for a couple years, and then returning to San Carlos to attend San Carlos High School. After high school, Roo moved to Phoenix where he attended Hi-Tech Institute. He graduated from Hi-Tech with a certificate in Electrical Engineering.
Roo was a very mischievous child. He joked around a lot with his siblings. His siblings also joked right back with him. For example, they would all call him “Mikey” because at that time there was a commercial about a kid named Mikey who ate anything and everything. When one of the siblings didn’t want to eat their food, they’d give it to “Mikey/Roo”. Which led him to be a chubby kid. Also, his Grandma Libby would always cook for him and give him tons of snacks. He loved spending time with Grandma Libby. Many summers, he would stay at her house, help her clean, take care of her dogs and just take care of her. Her payment for all he did was a home cooked meal every day. He loved her tortillas and especially the biscuits and gravy with ground beef.
Just as he cared for and took care of his grandma when he was younger, that is exactly what he did each day in his adult life. He lived right behind his parents’ house where he checked on them every day. He helped with household chores and just let them know that he was just a shout away out the back door if they needed help with anything. That was a blessing for his siblings knowing that Roo was right there to watch over their parents, as all the other siblings lived in Mesa/Phoenix.
A little story about Roo…
As a young child in Hawaii, he had gotten into an elevator and went to the 16 th floor, and he was seen because he stuck his head in between the bars looking down. After seeing him, Fred sent Duwayne to go up and get him. He would always get into things. Mischievous Roo.
Another fun fact…
Roo had a real sweet tooth. When his parents would go to the store, he always wanted a box of honey buns. He would even lick the sugar off the wrapper.
Roo was a great artist. He drew many pictures for family and friends. This led to him getting into tattooing. Although not a professional shop, he has drawn tattoos on several friends. I guess you could say it was a hobby that he enjoyed and sometimes benefitted from.
Dustin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Libby and Dennis Nelson Sr., Janie and Frederick M. Ferreira Sr., several aunts, uncles, and various extended family members. He is survived by his mother and father, Lillie and Frederick M. Ferreira Jr., his wife Eliza Ferreira. Siblings: Duwayne, Destiny, Dawn, and Durwin Ferreira. Dustin’s smile and hug will be forever missed.
