John Domenic Marcanti

November 1, 1953 — June 9, 2021

John Domenic Marcanti, 67, passed away on June 9, 2021 at his residence in Globe, Az. John was born on Nov. 1, 1953 at Miami Inspiration Hospital in Miami, Az. to Ernie and Sena Marcanti of Globe. He was the second child of five. Growing up, John developed a great deal of respect and love for his parents and siblings. From an early age he proved to have a strong work ethic that would carry him far in life. As a child he served as an altar boy for Holy Angels Catholic Church and started his first job at the age of 13, cleaning Coke bottles at the Stop-N-Shop Market in Globe. John attended Globe High School and was a proud Globe Tiger. He was a four-year letterman in football, wrestling and track and won state medals in wrestling, shot put and discus. He graduated GHS in 1972 and attended Arizona State University on a full football scholarship under Coach Frank Kush. After a knee injury John returned to Globe to help his father with the family-run business, Ernie’s Electric. At age 20, John met and married the love of his life Willie Jobe of Lexington, Mo. Together they had two children, Scott and Andrea. Upon Ernie’s retirement, John and his brother Mark took over the company and renamed it Marcanti Electric. In 2010, the company celebrated a half century of service in the Globe-Miami community. Over the years the business employed many people in the area and made countless charitable donations, which included installing lighting at local ball fields as well as donations to local churches. John served as a City of Globe Councilman from 1978 to 1980, and during his time with the City helped implement the Meals on Wheels program that is still in use today. He also served 25 years as a reserve with the Globe Fire Department and was presented a golden axe upon his retirement in 1999. John was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree, a dedicated member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and a member of the Sons of the Foreign Legion. He was also recognized by the Globe High School Hall of Fame Committee as one of the 10 inaugural inductees into the Hall of Fame. John served as an assistant coach for the Globe High School Football team under Coach Paul Petty and took great joy in helping student athletes whether through coaching, providing equipment or donating to local youth sports programs in Globe, Miami and San Carlos. He was also a strong supporter of Gila County 4-H and through the years never missed an auction at the Gila County Fair. From 2013 to 2016, John served the residents of Gila County as Supervisor for District 3. He devoted extra time and funding on programs that assisted the youth and senior citizens of Gila County. Over the years, John supported numerous non-profit organizations such as the Special Olympics and the American Cancer Society. He gave both time and funding to see that the Marsha Powell-Marcanti All Girl Roping and the Mark J. Marcanti Memorial Scholarship Ride were successful. He had a great love for cooking and family gatherings and was known to have taken home the trophy from the Gila County Fair’s All American Beef Cookoff once or twice with his lifelong friend Pete Oddonetto. In high school when friends began referring to John as Big John, Pete affectionately nicknamed him “Chopo” as a way of jesting at John’s large stature. John lived his life with an honest and kind heart. He will forever be remembered for his genuine nature and will be missed greatly. He gave whatever he could to help a neighbor or a friend and took great pride in the Globe-Miami community. John is preceded in death by his father Ernest Domenic Marcanti, mother Lucy Sena Marcanti, brother Mark J. Marcanti and daughter-in-law Marsha Powell Marcanti. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Willa Marcanti; brothers Larry (Kathy) Marcanti of Dallas, Tx., and Tom (Kathy) Marcanti of Mesa, Az.; sister Claire (Tony) Sapienza of West Palm Beach, Fl.; son Scott (Vanessa Seeley) Marcanti of Young, Az.; daughter Andrea (Justin) Justice of Globe, Az.; and three grandchildren Isiah, Ryliegh and the light of his life Lyanna Hope. A Rosary is planned for 10:30 a.m. June 26, 2021 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Globe followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the Mass at the IBEW hall in Globe.
