Joan Lamont

Joan (Joby) Cooper Lamont was born in Pontiac, Michigan on July 25, 1932.

She grew up in Michigan, moved to Oklahoma during her father’s transfer in the service, then moved back to Michigan, where she met Ian Lamont Sr. through their mutual friend, Joe Whaley.

She attended the University of Arizona and University of Michigan where she was a Delta Delta Delta, earning a degree in dental Hygiene.

Ian and Joby were married August 24,1955. Joby worked as a dental hygienist as Ian finished his secondary education in orthodontia.

The two eventually settled in Phoenix, Arizona with their 3 children.

Joby served on the cook team for the Arizona Episcopal Cursillo. She was a long time member of St Barnabas on the Desert, where her fingerprints can still be seen in her needlepoint work on communion kneeler pads. She and Ian also supported the church through various expansion projects. She sang in the church choir for many years and was a member of CBS Bible study while serving as their treasurer.

Joby loved choral music and was blessed to travel one summer with St Barnabas Choir on a trip to Europe where they had the opportunity to sing in several historical churches.

Joby also had a gift for entertaining. She loved to cook and have friends and family over to visit and have fellowship. She had a witty, fun, and joyful sense of humor for which she was well known and still remembered.

Joby died on January 29th, 2022. She is preceded in death by her son, Todd Lamont, and her husband Ian Lamont. She is survived by son, Ian Lamont, Jr. (Catherine), daughter Mary Vogelzang (Dan), and her grandchildren: Holley(Jon) Dunn, Ian lamont III, J.D. and Christina Vogelzang.

A celebration of life will be held at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church on April 2, 2022 at 2:00 PM.

Interment will immediately follow in the memorial garden of the church where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, son, and mother.
