Jesus Gonzales

Jesus (Chuey) Gonzales, long-time resident of Miami, Arizona, passed peacefully at the Archstone Care Center in Chandler, Arizona on November 16, 2020. He was born June 30, 1931 to Trinidad and Refugia Gonzales in Miami, Arizona. Jesus was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Martha Gonzales, his siblings José, Simona, Carmen, Lupe, Eleanor, Angela, Gilbert, Vicente, Ramon, Augustine and Manuel. He is survived by his sister, Adela Lopez, and his children Norma Sawyer, Nancy Gonzales, Norene Moreno, and Christopher Gonzales, and their spouses Jason Sawyer, Peter Reilly, Jon Moreno, and Maritza Gonzales. He is survived by seven grandchildren, Jason Spradling, Steven Sawyer, Emily Williamson, Isabel and Emma Strouse, Diego and Nico Gonzales, and two great grandchildren, Josiah and Shaelynn Spradling. Jesus was a graduate of Miami High School. He served our country by enlisting and serving in the Army as an Anti-aircraft Artillery Fire Control Crewman. He was honorably discharged and received a ‘National Defense Service Medal’ for serving during the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked for 37 years for Safeway Inc, spending the majority of his time in management in three different stores in the Globe-Miami community. Beyond his service and work responsibilities, what mattered most about Jesus Gonzales were his extraordinary qualities as a human being: his gregarious and generous nature, his deep love for his family, his high integrity and impeccable work ethic, quick sense of humor, his readiness to listen and talk with members of the community regardless of their age, background or interests, his gift for friendship, his capacity for fun, his gentle strength. Jesus will be celebrated with a Rosary and Mass held on Thursday, December 3 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Miami, AZ. Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, attendance is highly limited and by invitation only with face masks being required. BURIAL: MOUNTAIN BREEZE CEMETERY, MIAMI.
