With heavy hearts, we announced the passing of Howard Hooke Jr., a beloved husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who left us on November 7th at the age of 71. Howard Hooke Jr. was known for his positive personality, his kindness, his humor and always had a way of bringing joy to those around him.
Howard Hooke Jr, affectionately known as Hod, was born to the Late Howard Hooke Sr. and Nancy P. Hooke on August 30, 1953, in San Carlos, Arizona. He graduated from Globe High School in 1972 and attended several colleges, Eastern Arizona College, Yavapai College and Phoenix College. He played basketball for Globe High School and Yavapai College. Hod was passionate about helping the community and spent his lifelong career in the San Carlos Apache Tribal Food Distribution Program and the Ash Creek Livestock Association.
Hod always shared his faith in God to the people around him by singing and reciting scriptures by heart. He faithfully prayed and stood on the Word of God until his last breath.
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”. 2 Corinthians 5:8
Howard Hooke Jr. is survived by his wife, Juanita Hooke, his daughters Sharon Briseno, Rain Hooke, Annie Hooke, his sons, Job Hooke, Jonah Hooke, Joel Hooke, Stepdaughter Anita Woyneve Johnson, Stepsons Leroy Sekaquaptewa, Adrian Sekaquaptewa and Andrew Sekaquaptewa, his grandchildren Joshua Dillon, Neva Dillon, Samantha Dillon, and Joseph Dillon, and 6 great-grandchildren. His brothers Harding Hooke (Selma), Councilman Simon Hooke, Malcolm Hooke (Sally), and his sisters, Cheryl H. Mull (Marvin), Karen Hooke-Johnson (Terry), and Cassandra Chewning (Jonathan). Along with many, many, nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded into death with his son Jimmy Hooke, his parents, Howard Hooke Sr. & Nancy P. Hooke, his two brothers, Hardt Hooke Sr. and Samuel “Chummy” Hooke and two sisters, Charlene H. Brown and Peggy Cassa.
Hod was a private person; therefore, a one-day service will be held in his memory. The visitation will be held at 6:00 A.M. – 9:00 A.M. Following the visitation at 9:00 A.M. will be the Funeral Services at Burdette Hall in San Carlos, Arizona on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Interment will follow at the Peridot Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Burdette Hall in San Carlos, Arizona after the burial.
