Fernando James Randall was born 50 years ago July 7, 1972 in San Carlos, Arizona to Josephine “Cowboy Joe” Randall and Felix “Chumbee” Long.
His clans are born to: Is’ton’aiye’ (Cottonwood sticking in water people) born for: Tsetc’ehe’sdjine’ (Dark rocks extending out people) Choo’: Is’ton’aiye , nale’: K’aintci’dn’ (Reddened willows people).
He was raised by his grandparents the late Sadie (Thompson) Randall and Walter Randall whom he considered and knew as his parents.
Fernando was known by many names, for example: “Boy”, “Boy Blue”, “Fernan”, “Fernan Ran”, “Papa Plans”, “Grandpa Sunshine”.
He loved to socialize, especially at the “Point” where he was an epic figure… thus he had a tremendous number of friends and acquaintances, he also loved to watch football and basketball games and he was an avid Arizona Cardinals and Phoenix Suns fan. Remember his love for Country and Apache music? Many a time he blew out his speakers in the vehicle!
He was also a champion Apache Card player and a pool shark! There are many stories that we can share about him and his parties but we would be here all day! His famous saying as the life of the party was, “WWWEEEELLLL!!”
He didn’t have any children so his household meant the world to him; he helped raise many nieces and nephews, grand-nephews and grand-nieces and provided and showered them with anything they needed/wanted and helped them become the adults they are today. He loved to bake and cook, when he wanted to, and his favorite food was tacos.
When he WAS ACTUALLY HOME, he enjoyed watching Nat Geo and Animal Planet channels and loved anything pertaining to Bigfoot and UFO’s. Reading was also another favorite past time.
Participating and assisting with our Traditional sunrise dances was dear to him and one time he mentioned that he had five invitations at once. He taught his “girls” how to dance correctly; not to slouch, dance hard, stay until the end!
We cannot forget him dancing with his glorious ribbon shirts and his yellow, moccasins; we will miss that sight and have only our memories of him. He definitely touched a lot of people in his short time here. Fernando was a Globe Tiger graduating in 1992. Fernando was a private person when it came to his health and that is why it is a shock to everyone to learn of his passing since he didn’t want to worry anyone.
Fernando was a dedicated worker, he started his working career with Apache Gold Casino, working his way up from the time they first opened, first as a change person, then beverage server, eventually an HR clerk, he provided a combined total of 14 years at the Casino! He then started another chapter in his career with I.H.S. San Carlos Hospital as Medical Records Clerk then transitioned to Apache Health Care Corporation as the Lead Health Information Clerk (one of the Supervisors there) providing a combined total of 14 years before his decline in health.
Fernando is survived by brothers: Ernest Lee Randall, David Randall, Leroy Randall; sisters: Josephine Randall, Shirley Randall, Patsy Sue Randall, and Delores Randall; numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nephews and grand-nieces, plus his entire Is’ton’aiye clan members.
Our family and reservation will never be the same without him. Farewell, until we all meet again. You will be tremendously missed and are truly loved.
