He was very much involved in their lives and in raising them. You would always find Edwin playing pranks on his girls and his nieces and nephews. He was the proudest Father when he would watch his children play sports. He was their biggest fan. He was so excited when Camryn told him she was going to play college basketball for South Mountain College. He was eager to watch her play. Jr. was very proud of all his children. At times when they made it on paper, he would cut out their pictures and hang them up. In 2020 Edwin met Misti Newman, after their first date, he got down on one knee and proposed. She says, “are you serious”? He says “I’m down on one knee, aren’t I? Misti had 3 children and he accepted them as his own. He’d always play games with them, His oldest sister remembers him calling her daughter Toni, Toni Nash, they have no idea why he called her that. They also remember him not liking it when Toni first started wearing makeup, he tried to discourage her from wearing it. He called his nephew Maddox “Max Doggity Dog. Maddox enjoyed hanging out with him because Uncle Jr. always played games with all his girls, nieces and nephews and the neighborhood kids. He took them for walks, played basketball, he kept them busy. He called his nephew Gavin “G-Money”, he always teased him. Buffy remembers watching from the window, as Jr. tried to teach Gavin how to ride a bike, Gavin was a growing boy, she laughed as she seen Jr. running along and holding the bike yelling “pedal, pedal, GMoney”, “G-Money never pedaled, he just held on as his Uncle was pushing him, He never learned to ride a bike, but there was Jr. still running along and holding the bike for him each week. Buffy says he wanted Gavin to learn to ride a bike so he could ride along with all the kids instead of walking or running alongside of them. Jr’s niece Toni recalls “Uncle Jr being a funny guy, the uncle who was overprotective, the uncle who would embarrass you in public with no shame. Toni says Jr. would go above and beyond for his girls, he would do anything and everything for them. Uncle Jr. had a green thumb, he was always planting something, but it never failed, the horses and dogs would get into his garden. She remembers him picking and mining peridots, he had little stations set up for them to help him, there was someone digging, someone picking, and then someone screening and cleaning the gemstones. When all the work was done and he sold them, he’d buy them snacks and drinks. Jr. would take his girls, his nieces, and nephews on walks to the airstrip behind the hill near their house, he made things interesting by telling them of his skills when he worked at Forestry as a wildland firefighter. Toni says he showed them how to survive in the wilderness and what to do in a worst-case scenario, I thought to myself, he just did that to get them outta the house and to get some exercise, but they didn’t know it. Jr.s girls and their cousins loved to go night swimming, Jr. would go out of his way to make the water warm for them, he would boil water and even run the hose out to the pool from inside the house. He’d make sure they had nice warm towels when they’d get out. Uncle Jr. lived across the street from his sister Buffy. Toni says, having my uncle live across us for years had it perks but it also came with an uncle who was overprotective. He was my mom’s go to for any spider issues, he was always there when we needed something done. He was also the security guard for us, when someone would come by, he would call and ask if we were ok, if anyone was bothering us, and ask us if he needed to come over. As I got older and started to hang out and go out with friends, he would stand outside and yell “here you taking my niece, who are you, what do you want”? There came a time when I had a visitor and we stood outside talking, my uncle stood outside with his spotlight yelling “I can see you guys, she has crazy uncles I can call in Bylas. He started to call and question my mom, asking if she knew I was outside, asking if she knew I had someone over, and I was 21 at the time. It’s safe to say I never brought anyone over after that. My Uncle had his own nicknames for everyone, he wouldn’t care, he would yell our nicknames in public, with no shame and make sure everyone could hear your name. I was “chaw butt, Chaw Girl or Toni Nash” Uncles’ last words to me were “I love you Toni Nash, I love you, the girls and Warren because he takes good care of you guys, I love Max and Money too. I’ll be home, don’t worry I will be ok. I love you guys. I’ll always remember when he stood outside our house around the time the clown stuff was a thing, he made me cry, I’ve always been afraid of clowns, and he stood right at the driveway asking for me. His sister Brenda remembers her brother calling his nieces by nicknames he gave them; he would call Ariel “Esther” he’d call Cassie Dirty Dora”. Jr. would come in his mom’s house and yell “Esther, Dirty Dora”. As onery as Ariel and Cassie were, they’d answer to their nicknames. Brenda says her brother used to yell out to a guy walking by named Romero and say “hey Romero, one of my niece wants to meet you, then he’d come in my room and say to Ariel, whom he called Esther, Esther, someone outside is asking for you, Ariel (Esther) would go outside to see which one of her friend is outside and Romero would be standing out there, Jr would get a big kick out of teasing “Esther and Dirty Dora” Misti added, He always embarrassed his nieces Chubby (Jaselyn), he called her Chubby Nash. When Chubby and Booboo (Jaysette) would sell at the swap meet on Saturdays he would yell “Chubby Nash”, grandma is mad at you because your cowboy boyfriend is passed out in her yard with a hurricane box. Or Booboo, you and your Hurricane breath, grandma is mad at you. Their grandma on their dad’s side used to wonder if it was true and ask them. Finally, they got used to it. Booboo was the smart one and hid from him, Chubby had no choice and would get caught slipping.
