Earl Dean Russell

Earl Dean Russell Sr. 73 of San Carlos passed on April 4, 2020 at the San Carlos Healthcare Corporation in Peridot, Arizona. Earl was born on May 4, 1946 in San Carlos Arizona to Willie “Ocean Blue “and Katherine Russell. He graduated from Globe High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Earl pursed a career as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Local 428 Operating Engineers and served 30 years with them as a heavy equipment operator. He helped construct roads and highways all over the state of Arizona from Kingman to Duncan. His career eventually brought him back home to the San Carlos Apache reservation. He then took a position with the Tribe’s Fire Management program as Heavy Equipment Supervisor. He helped maintain access roads and fire lines for the tribe for 15 years later retiring in 2015. Earl was a devoted husband, family man, and friend. Earl was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors. His passion for the outdoors began working as a cowboy for the Anchor Seven Cattle Association as young man. He enjoyed taking his children hunting and fishing at the local water tanks and lakes. Earl loved to drive all over the San Carlos countryside exploring. After retirement one of his favorite pastimes was chauffeuring his grandchildren to and from school and events. Earl is survived by his wife of 54 years Lorraine Key Russell; 4 Children, Vonda Russell of San Carlos, Earlene Kayson of San Carlos, Tracylyn Russell of Phoenix, Earl D Russell Jr of San Carlos, Jason Dye of Globe, AZ; 4 Grandchildren Alexis Salter, Danny Hernandez, Ashley Kayson, Amanda Lott, and by 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving His sister, Mygretta Shorten of San Carlos, Nancy Begay of San Carlos. Preceded in death by 2 daughters; Beverly Ann Russell, Katherine Nicole Russell, and son in law Alder Kayson.
