Donna L. Anderson

March 6, 1933 — December 4, 2020

Donna L. Anderson March 6, 1933 – December 4, 2020 Donna was born in Scottsburg, Indiana on her grandparents’ farm. Her parents owned 5 newspapers, so during her younger years she learned how to do all facets of newspaper work – photography, writing, operating linotype and press machines, as well as the collating machines. Donna also made time to care for stray cats, dogs, rabbits, foxes and just about any living creature. She loved all God’s creatures, no matter what the thing was – crawly, running, flying. It didn’t matter! Donna moved her family to Globe in 1963 for family health reasons. Donna worked for the Arizona Record and Arizona Silver Belt. During her years of newspaper work, she won many certificates for her beautiful, heartfelt writing. In 1967, she married Guy Anderson and combined their families. Donna eventually left the newspaper and became the Executive Director of the Globe Chamber of Commerce. She held that position for 11 years. During that time, she also was very active with the Gila County centennial celebration. She obtained a grant for the re-establishment of the Globe City Band, which became the Centennial Band. Donna was extremely proud of that achievement and supported the band at nearly every concert. In 1984, Donna and Guy founded the Copper Country News. They retired from newspaper life in 1997. They loved to travel back roads in their jeep. During Donna’s life in Globe, she was totally committed to the betterment of the community. She was so involved in so many activities, it would take pages to list what she did for the community. She loved Globe – it is home. In later years, she could be found at her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. She would call to find out when the next game would be so she could be there. She was so supportive of her family. Donna was a HUGE fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals, especially Luis Gonzalez and Larry Fitzgerald. She always had a game on her TV. Donna is survived by her children – Debbie (Danny) Guthrey, Daniel (Lori) Green, Gene (Patti) Anderson, Lance Anderson, and Machiel (Ken) Bain, and her sister Carolyn Hiser. There are 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. She was preceeded in death by her husband Guy, sister Jane, brother Robert, and son Dale Green. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Globe, the Gila Historical Society in Globe, or Arizona Lions Camp Tatiyee in Pinetop-Lakeside. So many lives were richly blessed by knowing Donna. She will be greatly missed and thought of so very fondly.
