Donald "Donny" Hawkins

October 10, 1939 — April 14, 2022

Donald (Donny) Hawkins entered into eternal rest on Thursday April 14, 2022 in Globe, AZ.

Donald was born October 10, 1939 to Reva and Joseph Hawkins in Globe, AZ. After graduating from Globe High School in 1957, he went to work at the VW dealership. Then in 1959 he joined the US Air Force where he served in the Strategic Air Command as an aircraft mechanic (A2CE3) from 1959 to 1964. In 1965 he went to work at Vic Owen VW dealership, and then worked at Inspiration/Phelps Dodge for the next 30 plus years as Supervisor of the Rod Plant Analytical Lab until his retirement in 2002.

Donald married the love of his life Beverly Medlin and they supported each other through life’s joys and hardships. During their 39 happy years together they enjoyed camping, fishing, rock hounding, traveling, cooking together and attending Jazz concerts. He especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Donald enjoyed rebuilding cars (especially VWs), painting, pottery, glass blowing, lapidary and building model planes. He was a very talented artist who shared many of his creations with friends and family. A younger Donald won many soap box derbies, enjoyed working on cars with his Dad and brother, plus played the trumpet in High School and in the Globe City Band.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Terry Hawkins (Susie) and David Hawkins (Tammye), five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, all living in Texas. Brother Gene Hawkins (Mary) of Globe, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and son Bryan Hawkins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
