On December 13, 2003, Darius Terrazas was born to Debbie Terrazas and Cedrick Stanley. His siblings are: brother, Hilario Terrazas, his late sister Nakia Terrazas, sister Nisa Desmond, and brother Tellie Desmond. Darius’s family lived in the New Moonbase subdivision in Peridot, Arizona. When he was little, he loved spending time at his late Grandmother’s house, she was Grandma Rosalyn, it is then he formed a close bond with his cousins, Juanita Stanley, Aaliyah Stanley and Anthonia Norman. Darius loved spending time with family, he enjoyed fishing, camping, having barbecue’s and playing with his friends. In his teens, Darius wanted to venture out to attend school away from home, so his mother completed paperwork for him to attend “Chemawa Indian High School in Portland, Oregon. He made a lot of friends there from all across Indian Country, and remained in close contact with them through Social Media. He came home to San Carlos for the remainder of his High School Years, in which he was currently a Senior at San Carlos High School. Darius was supposed to graduate this past May, but was short a few credit hours. His teachers reached out to him to come back to school to help him finish and receive his High School Diploma. His teachers and peers said he was a kind young man, very respectful, sometimes quiet, but when you got to know him, he was so much fun and was known for having a sense of humor. It was also said he was quite a ladies man in the hallways between classes, all the pretty girls wanted to get to know him, in which he would smile and act calm, cool and collected, but only later to tell his teacher or friends about them, and that he was happy on the inside but didn’t show it, following by saying “you know” Darius would also ask his teachers and friends if they prayed and if they believed in Jesus, he told them he knew Jesus heard his every prayer, he kept his faith in Jesus and he was certain when his time was up on earth that he would make it to Heaven.
He spent this past Summer with his mom, he loved his mama, he would tell her when he was done with all his schooling and trade school, he was going to get a good job so he could take care of her. There were times throughout the years Darius stayed with friends in New Moonbase who became his family. He loved every one of them and was so thankful to each of them for taking him in.
I was also told of how kind he was to the kids in the neighborhood, one in particular was deaf, he showed kindness to him and that kid cried when he heard of Darius’s passing, he told his grandmother, he was so nice to me, I’m going to miss him.
In our Apache Language, there are no words for Goodbye, so, Darius, we will see you later. We love and Miss you already, but we know you made it to Heaven, where the Roses never fade, no more sadness, no more sorrow, no more pain, you are Happy and Free.
