June 10, 1948 — January 30, 2025

Charlie Turney, age 76, passed away peacefully at Abrazo Arizona heart hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by his family on January 30, 2025. Charlie was born in Ft. Thomas, Arizona on June 10, 1948, to Raymond and Tina Turney. He graduated from Ft. Thomas High School where he excelled in sports including basketball and football. A lifelong patriot, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Morrison, in 1968. Together, they raised 3 children. Charlie enjoyed coaching kids in T-ball, Little League, and Youth Basketball for many years. Charlie spent the first part of his working life in the copper mines. He was known as an exceptional heavy equipment operator and a friendly coworker. Later, with the instability of the copper mines, he decided to change careers. He became a correctional officer at CCA Prison in Florence, Arizona for several years before retiring. In retirement, he cared for his wife until her death in 2018. Charlie spent a lot of time with his lifelong hobby of rock collecting and jewelry making. He was a regular vendor every year at the Gila County Gem and Mineral Show and was a long-time member of the Gila County Gem and Mineral Society. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also had a caring heart for all animals. He is preceded in death by his parents and multiple siblings along with his wife of 50 years Elizabeth Ann Turney. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Turney-Shaw (Steve), sons, Charles Turney, Jr. (John), and Patrick Turney (Reta). Three grandchildren: Jeanine Avalos, William Shaw, and Madison Turney and two great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters; Billie Rhodes and Jessie Reed, his brothers; Glenn Weddle and John Turney along with multiple nieces and nephews. Chalie Turney was a caring, generous, gentle man who put family above all things. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
