Charles E. Winder of Globe, Arizona passed away January 5th, 2025, at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ellen. Charles grew up in Alexandria, Louisiana. He entered military service at the tender age of 19 and retired after 21 years.
After retirement, he entered a different kind of service. He stated examining the Bible’s promise of the time when war will be no more, and that Jehovah God will wipe out every tear from our eyes. Especially those Charles shed for his daughter Monsel who died at only six years old. His favorite Bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11 “For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.” So, he was Baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses June 17th, 1989. He loved people and enjoyed sharing these wonderful promises with many in our community as well as Sierra Vista and Phoenix.
Charles loved technology, having attended High Tech Institute in computer networking, was a Cisco Certified Network Associate, and received a Certification in Fiber Optics. Through the years he continued to keep up with the latest developments. He was also fond of grilling, or smoking ribs, and known for his Gumbo. In the last year he got a kick out of watching the Quail squabbling with the other birds in the backyard to get their fair share of the birdseed.
Charles is survived by his son Charles, Jr., Ingrid (Andreas) Pfeifer, Alexander (Caren) Winder, and Derek Winder. Also, his “bonus” children, Christopher (Michelle) Yerkovich, Deborah (John) Wong, Sheryl (Kendall) Cormack, Darrel (Jen) Yerkovich, his niece Taisha (Brian) Feldhaus, sister-in-law Charlotte Winder and nephews Jermaine Winder, Christopher Winder and all their families.
