CATHERINE "CAPPY" RIDENHOUR, AGE 95, FORMERLY OF GLOBE, PASSED AWAY MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2021 AT WOODLAND CARE CENTER IN WOODLAND, WASHINGTON. “Cappy” was born to Todd and Virgie Joy on November 22, 1925 in Chandler, Arizona. She was the oldest of three children that included a sister Alva Jean and a brother Lyn (Boots). She grew up in Young, Arizona and always said there was no better place on earth to grow up than in Young, because it felt like one big happy family and people looked out for each other. She worked and earned her own money from a young age, providing a firm foundation for her independent spirit and self-confidence. At age 14, with the approval of her parents, she rode the mail stage to Globe to buy school clothes. She registered herself and stayed at the local hotel in Globe. She ventured out to eat and shop for school clothes on her own, returning to Young on the mail stage the next week. After graduating from high school, she entered the nurses training at Good Samaritan in Chandler, successfully completing the program. She then entered the military during WWII as an army Cadet Nurse stationed at fort Sam Huston in Texas, caring for many of the wounded service men. Later, during the Korean War, she was stationed at Tripler Naval Hospital in Hawaii as a Commissioned Officer Nurse. It was here that she met her future husband, a young Marine named S.L. (Ike) Ridenhour. They were married August 24, 1955, in Nevada. On June 17, 1956, they were blessed with a son Randy L. (Monty) who was born at Camp Pendleton Hospital in Oceanside, California. Before Monty was even one, Ike and Cappy both resigned from the military and moved to her beloved Arizona, where she resided for the rest of her life. She worked as a nurse for many years in a number of capacities including at the Miami Inspiration Hospital, Globe-Miami Clinic, visiting nurse for senior citizens and the first head nurse at Heritage Health Care Center. She took great pleasure in knitting, watching football and baseball, as well as spending time with family and friends. After their retirement, Cappy and Ike traveled extensively throughout the United States and many Provinces of Canada, but Cappy always cherished returning to her Arizona home. Cappy and Ike were wonderful parents, often traveling out of town to athletic games and events participated in by Monty. They also planned many of their trips around visiting and doing fun things with their grandchildren. Ike passed away on October 23, 2010. Cappy is survived by her son Randy L. (Monty) Ridenhour, daughter-in-law Theresa M. Ridenhour, grandchildren, Todd C. Ridenhour, Arthur S. (Tudy ) Ridenhour, Erin E. Ridenhour, and Adam L. Ridenhour; and great grandchildren Lenny, Kaycee, Zachary, Brenden, Veyda, Breana, and Grayson. Cappy and Ike had many family and friends from all over the United States and were loved by all who met them. Cappy will be dearly missed by all that knew her! Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe, AZ Interment will follow at Young Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.
