Barbara Louise Valencia, a native of Globe, Arizona, met her soulmate and future husband, Charles M. Valencia, in the third grade. Their early crushes blossomed into a serious relationship during her years at Arizona State University and his time at Lincoln Tech Institute. They tied the knot on July 13, 1970, and their family began with the arrival of their son Tim (Timmy) in 1973, followed by Lisa and Ken (Bubba) a few years later. In 1998, Barbara was overjoyed by the unexpected arrival of her baby angel, Kimberly, completing their family.
Throughout her child-rearing years, Barbara dedicated herself to supporting her family through a career in workforce and career development. Starting as a Career Advisor, she eventually ascended to the role of Director at the Gila/Pinal County Workforce Connections and taught business courses at Eastern Arizona Community College's Gila Pueblo Campus. Barbara’s commitment to assisting others extended to helping them achieve educational goals, training for new careers, or securing employment. She retired from her role in Gila County in 2014.
Barbara's family continued to grow with the births of her nine grandchildren—Dominic, Taylor, Timothy, Devin, Trevor, Damien, Danica, Jayden, and Jada—and she was thrilled to welcome her first great-grandson, Ashton. She eagerly anticipated the arrival of her second great-grandson, Miles, expected in July 2024.
An avid sports fan, Barbara loved cheering on her children and grandchildren from the stands at their soccer, baseball, basketball, track, volleyball, and softball games. She enjoyed family hunting trips, opting for the comfort of a travel trailer, and cherished quiet weekends at their cabin in Show Low. Barbara also had a fondness for casinos, ensuring that no matter where they were, Charlie found the nearest one for a bit of fun.
