Arthur Vernon Miller

October 21, 1946 — December 27, 2018

Arthur Vernon Miller, 72, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 27, 2018. Arthur was born on October 21, 1946 in Miami, AZ to Vern and Tommie Miller. Arthur graduated from Miami High School in May of 1965 and left for the Marine Corps in June of that same year. After completing Boot Camp at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA, he then went on to Recon training in Okinawa, Japan at Camp Schwab. Upon completion of his training he went to Vietnam and served with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines. Arthur was later assigned to Alpha Company, 3rd Recon Battalion.   He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1969.   Arthur received the Navy Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart. Arthur married his true love, Jan Harmon, in August of 1968. Upon discharge from the Marine Corps, the couple moved back to the Globe/Miami area and he went to work for what was the Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company. He worked as a mechanic and sheet metal fabricator until he retired. He was the best Husband, Dad, or Papa you could ask for. He always made sure his bride had a special Christmas or Birthday present and always made her open it early. He packed the best lunch boxes and his mayonnaise eggs will never be forgotten. He was very involved with his children’s activities. He always there to support any interest and always attended activities no matter how boring they really were. Many times he volunteered to coach. His grandkids will never forget how he walked them around the neighborhood, rain or shine, just because they wanted to go talk to the trees. He was also known to check them out of school because he could teach them more than they would learn if they stayed in class. He went to great lengths to make sure there was always a pool in his yard for the grandkids to swim in. He taught them that playing Johnny Horton music full blast while riding the bumps in Miami was a great way to spend your time. He taught us all how much fun you can have at Disneyworld especially if you were shopping with the right card. He loved watching soccer, softball, baseball games or anything his kids or grandkids participated in. We will always remember how caring, loving and genuine he was. Arthur is survived by his wife of fifty years Jan Miller; daughter Tracey and husband Tom Barrick; son Craig and his wife Laura Miller; and daughter Sara and husband Lonny Brewer. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren and a very special great granddaughter. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and brother Alfred Barney. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 1pm at The Assembly of God Church in Miami, Arizona. Interment with Military Honors at Globe Cemetery.
