Petra Villegas

Petra R. Villegas Villegas, Petra R. 83, of Globe, Arizona went to be with her Heavenly Father on 15 March, 2017 in the comfort of her home provided by Danny and Patty (son and daughter-in-law) in Gilbert, AZ, surrounded by family and friends. Petra was born on April 28, 1933, to Antonio and Herminia in Ben Bolt, TX. She met the love of her life Santos Villegas (deceased) in Globe Arizona, where they married, and raised eight children. Petra and Santos worked hard to send all eight of their children to Holy Angel’s Catholic school. They were devoted to the Holy Angel’s parish in ministry and service. Petra was famous for her cooking, especially her homemade tortillas, burros and tamales. Her cooking talent was shared and remembered by many people both within and outside her community, especially at the holidays. She took first prize for her tamales at the Gila County Fair. She shared her cooking talents to benefit many charities and social events including: Holy Angels parish and school, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. We were blessed to have had her in our lives. Her spirit lives on and in our hearts. We would like to thank the staff of the Gemini Hospice, and family and friends for their love and support. Petra is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years Santos Villegas, mother and father Antonio and Herminia Rodriguez, 3 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her sister Lily Rodriguez, brother in law Joe Martinez, eight children Ernie Villegas (April), Diane V. Plevich (Chuck), Danny Villegas (Patty), Sam Villegas (Eva), Raymond Villegas (David), Tony Villegas (Andrea), Bernice Villegas-White (Larry), Bonnie Atilano (George), 21 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 6:15pm at Holy Angels Catholic Church on 21st March, Tuesday followed later by a Rosary prayer at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held 22nd, March Wednesday at 10:00 am at Holy Angel’s Catholic Church to celebrate Petra’s eternal life. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share their memories at Holy Angels Parish Hall. Interment will be at the Globe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in honor of Petra Villegas to the Holy Angel’s parish, 201 S. Broad Street, Globe, AZ 85501.
