Bobby Huggins

October 5, 1936 — December 30, 2016

According to his plan, Bobby Wayne Huggins, 80, went quietly and peacefully from his home in Central Heights to be with his sweetheart on Friday, December 30, 2016. Born at home in Allen, Oklahoma, to Sylvester Ray and Zeffie Juanita (Allen) Huggins on October 5, 1936, he joined older brother Teddy Ray. The family soon moved to Arizona where Charles Richard, Lewis Sylvester, Ella Mae, and James Curtis were born. Bob grew up in the Globe/Miami area and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in both the Army and Navy as a truck driver and heavy-duty mechanic. He married Betty Hale on April 13, 1971 in Miami. Together they enjoyed hosting and feeding family and crowds of friends including area Cowbelles and the Eastern Arizona Old-time Fiddlers. Bob loved getting grease under his nails working on any kind of engine or motor imaginable. He enjoyed creating sculptures and art out of horseshoes, also working with wood on his lathe. These hobbies and interests he shared with his sons and taught these skills to many of his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his 6 children - Vesta (John) Barrowdale of Payson, Jim Huggins of Globe, Ray (Ruthie) Huggins of Duncan, Rebecca Stephens of Benson, Josh (Lisa) Huggins of Holbrook, and Leonard (Shirley) Strom of Central Heights, 17 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, 2 siblings - Lewis, and Ella Mae - along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his wife Betty, his parents, 3 siblings, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service held Saturday, January 7, 2016 at 11 a.m., St. John's Episcopal Church, 185 East Oak St., Globe, with Military Honors. Private interment in the church columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John's Episcopal Church are preferred. Lamont Mortuary of Globe assisted the family.
