Velma Hodson

September 2, 1952 — October 3, 2016

My mother was a wonderful artist who loved to paint and draw but her special love was arranging flowers for every occasion. She used silk flowers so the recipient could enjoy her sentiment for as long as they like. She dedicated herself to the community of Roosevelt for nearly 40 years by participating and servicing RWC, RCA, RRO, Beta Sigma Phi, Tonto Basin Fire Department, and others. When special events came up she was usually found painting children’s faces. Velma especially loved children and made sure they were not in the shadows or felt alone. In 1974, Velma married the love of her life, Myles. She said she instantly fell in love with him and prayed that God would see fit that they were together and bring her a child. My mom spent the rest of her life making sure my dad was never excluded from participating in things that interested him. Together they became archeologist, jewelry makers, publishers, collectors of pencils, rocks, matchbooks and many other things. To Velma, family was always most important and you didn’t have to be blood related to be family. She spent countless hours finding and bringing relatives together, right to the end. My mother knew no strangers and always had a kind word to offer or quiet ear for anyone who needed to unload their troubles. Velma Gene Hodson is survived by her husband Myles Howard Hodson, father John Irvin (Patty) Beavers, Sister Dawn Rae (Dean) Knobloch, Sister Charlotte Ann (Willy) Barrett, daughter Michelle Raylynn Hodson, grandson Timothy Johnathan Hodson, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt and extended family that were precious to her heart. Velma will be dearly missed but her legacy will go on in the love shared with everyone she knew. A very special thank you to Debbie and Jim Hedges and Allison McKinley for lovingly opening their home and caring for Velma in her final days and to Jenette Michelle Jascha for being a visiting angel nearly every day. We are blessed because God brought us together.
