Paul Machula

Paul Machula was born in Snowflake, AZ on June 5, 1947 to Herman Machula and Gwendolyn Bates Machula. He passed away on December 10, 2015 in Globe, AZ at the age of 68. Paul was raised in Globe, AZ and graduated from Globe High School as Salutatorian in 1965. Paul graduated with a degree in Music Ed and a minor in Spanish from Arizona State University in 1973. He served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Argentina. Following his mission, Paul served in the Arizona National Guard from 1971 to 1981. Paul received a master’s degree in choral music from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1979. While at BYU, he met Janet Allen. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on July 3, 1976. They are blessed with three children. In 1976, Paul began teaching music for the Miami Unified School District, where he taught for 22 years. The next 14 years, he taught Spanish and French at Miami High School, retiring in 2012. Many students throughout the years remember Paul as one of their favorite teachers and will remember his amazing stories and the way he could make music, Spanish, and history come alive. In addition to teaching, Paul served in many capacities for the LDS Church including being Bishop of the Globe 2nd Ward for five years. Throughout his life, Paul took a keen interest in a variety of subjects including astronomy, history, and languages to computer programming and music composition. As a historian, Paul received recognition for three books that he wrote focusing on the history of the local area: Pinal Mountain Legacies and The Tale of the Apache Kid. He co-authored History of the San Carlos Apache with Dale Miles. Paul also gave several historical presentations as a part of the Arizona Lecture Series in Apache Junction, AZ. As a musician, Paul has composed hundreds of pieces of music. Many of his compositions have been performed at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts and the Globe-Miami Centennial Band and Jazz Band. He has indeed blessed the lives of many people with his music. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Gwendolyn Machula, his sister, Vickie Machula, and his brother, Orville Baird and his grandson, Daniel Rencher. Paul is survived by his wife, Janet Machula and daughters, Amy Gordon (Randall Gordon) of Globe, AZ, Laurel Rencher (Matthew Rencher) of Mesa, AZ, Hyla Cline (Nathan Cline) of Globe, AZ and 10 grand children and his brother Myron Machula (Dorothy) of Chico, California. Funeral services will be held at the LDS Stake Center in Globe, AZ on Saturday, December 19, 2015. The viewing will be held at 9:00 AM followed by the service at 10:00 AM.
