Mary Ellen McGinness was born in Mason City, Iowa on Dec. 13, 1924 to W. Hobart and Galdys E. “Lionard” Patterson. She graduated from Mason city High School and attended Frances Shimer Jr. College in Mount Carroll, IL and graduated from Laurence University in Appleton, WI. She arrived in Globe in 1946 to take the position of Supervisor of Elementary School Music. Later, she went into elementary education and taught first grade at East Globe Elementary for the rest of her career. She was active in chapter #8 Order of Eastern Star in Delta Kappa Gamma and was choir director of St. Paul’s Methodist church for 25 years. She also worked at the County Court House for eight years. She passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at Heritage Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee McGinness. She leaves three daughters, Bessie Belt, Linda McKinley, Patty Radvich and husband Mike Radvich. She also leaves three grandchildren, Jason McKinley, Jon Mckinley Michael Radvich and five great grandchildren. Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s UMC. Interment was at Globe Cemetery. Contributions to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or OES, chapter #8.
