Valerie Jean Tom

Valerie Jean Tom, age 54 of San Carlos, Arizona, passed away on Sat. June 14, 2014, at Promise Healthcare Hospital in Mesa, AZ. She was born in Globe, AZ on December 20, 1959, the daughter of Dennis and Lena Marie (Martin) Nelson, Jr. Valerie attended Globe High School,graduating in 1977. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Globe Marching Band and the Concert Band. She continue her studies at A.S.U and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Social Work. She worked at the San Carlos Apache Tribe as Director of the Youth Home and Family Services also as manager of Headstart. She also worked with Social Service Dept. with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Tribe and was a personal care attendant with Soaring Eagles. She is survived by her children Ransom J. Tom (Beth), of Prescott, AZ and Ashleigh M. Tom of San Carlos, AZ, her parents Dennis and Lena nelson, Jr., her siblings; Vonda N. Cota (David, Veda M. Cota (Adolph), Michael J. Nelson (Kamaleen), Vina J. Nelson and Jonathan R. Nelson, Sr., two grandchildren. Visitation was held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 6:00 A.M. at The Assembly of God Church in San Carlos, AZ. Funeral services follow at at 8:00 A.M. at the church with interment at San Carlos Cemetery.
