Maybelline Chimney

Maybelline was born to James Theodore Chimey and Maude Datsi in Gila County, her birth place was not known. Maybelline passed away at Heritage Nursing Care after an extended illness that was also caused by a vehicular accident she was involved in prior to her illness. She was a warm, social person that befriended people she met throughout her life. Maybelline loss her mother at a tender age of 5 years old and was raised by her siblings Calvin and Gladys and later by other relatives. Maybelline attended school at St. Johns Catholic Boarding School in Laveen, AZ. And Stewart Indian School in Nevada. Later she further her education by attending a Nursing School. Maybelline had the honor of representing her tribe as former Miss San Carlos. She held various jobs within the tribe as Accountant for general funds; Police Officer and Game Ranger; AA Counselor; and for BIA Forestry as Camp Crew Cook. Prior to returning to San Carlos she was employed for 15 years as a waitress and while living in Denver, CO she worked as a Salesperson. Maybelline will be remembered for being a faithful cook; she loved to cook for her family, firefighters, wakes, and Sunrise Dances. Cooking was her passion and would gladly prepare a meal while sharing pastime events with friends and relatives. Maybelline was full of surprises and one day after her accident she decided to take her family to see her daughter in California. We had an adventurous time at Six Flags, driving the scenic routes and arrived in Yuba City, CA to meet our sister and her family. This was her way of bonding with her family and was a joyous time for her. She also loved going to the casinos to mingle with friends and make new friends and to gamble. It didn’t matter if she won or not because she gained a new friend along the way. We will all miss her laughter, warmth and friendship. Maybelline was preceded by her parents, her husband Manuel Stevens, Sr.; her son Carlos Steele, three brothers; Calvin, Clyde, and Valentine Noline and two sisters; Gladys and Julie Noline. She is survived by three daughters; Arayba Miranda, Benning, CA, Magalita (Darwin Sr.) Swimmer, Peridot, AZ Denise Quick of Sierra Vista, AZ, and one son Pah-Kay-Nay Day of Benning, CA.
