Helen Odessa Lecompte

d. December 5, 2013

Helen LeCompte, age 90, of Globe passed away December 5, 2013. Born Helen Odessa Underwood in Ada, Oklahoma in 1923, she married Colman Newton LeCompte at age 17. She and Colman moved to Miami in 1946 along with their four children, Annette, Jerry, Larry and Nina. Colman worked for Miami Copper Company for 13 years and they had another child, Patricia. During their stay in Miami, Helen and Colman were members of Miami First Southern Baptist Church. Helen’s family remembers the many times that she sang in church and the many picnics that attended with church members after services on Sundays. The LeCompte family lived in Davis Canyon in Miami and often stopped at the El Rey Café on their way home from church. A layoff at Miami Copper in 1959 prompted the LeComptes to move to Grants, New Mexico, where Colman worked at Kerr McGee and they attended the Milan First Southern Baptist Church. Following his retirement in 1979, Helen and Colman moved to Roosevelt Lake Estates and attended the Roosevelt Baptist Church. In 1994 they moved to Globe and attended Trinity Baptist Church. Helen and Colman were married 58 years when he passed in 1998. The last few years of her life Helen lived at the Copper Mountain Inn nursing home in Globe. Helen will be remembered as a virtuous woman who loved her children and lived her life with strong Christian values. Those beliefs sustained her throughout her life. Her children can also attest that she was an amazing cook. Some of her specialties were yeast rolls with chocolate gravy, increasingly ambitious sandwiches containing everything in the kitchen, wonderful fried pies, cooked down green beans with Spam and homemade donuts. Colman remarked that no matter what she made, it always tasted better in a flour tortilla and proved it many times to his children. Helen is survived by her children and their families: Jerry LeCompte (Minnie) of Phoenix, Larry LeCompte (Barbara) of Globe, Annette Ramirez of Casa Grande, Nina Daugherty of Prescott and Patricia Adams of Phoenix. There are eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements for Helen LeCompte will be handled by Lamont Mortuary. There will be a private memorial graveside ceremony for friends and family at the Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens on Friday December 13, 2013 at 10:00AM. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Baptist Church.
