JAMES VELDON JONES February 2, 1931-September 30, 2013 Veldon was born in Globe on February 2, 1931, the son of Winnie Mae Joy Jones and James William (Bill) Jones. Veldon was raised in Young, Arizona and went to Young Public Schools. He had two half brothers, Edward and Winston Byas. Veldon enlisted in the United states Air Force in 1952. He was career military and retired from the USAF in 1973. He served his country with pride and traveled all over the world for duty as a military policeman. In 1959 Veldon married Lois Allene Duchett on the courthouse steps. His only child, Janiene Velda was born in 1961 at Lackland AFB. Lois passed away in 1972 and Veldon retired and returned to Globe to raise his daughter. Veldon worked as a security guard and retired from the Mohave County Sheriff’s office in 1991. Veldon is a 56 year member of the Pinal Mountain Elks. He has been married to Karen Simmons since 1985. They enjoyed many happy years in Kingman, Pinetop and Globe. Karen has three children Donna, Chris and James. Veldon raised James as a son from the age of six. James and his wife Amanda named their son Creed Taylor Bray after Veldons great-grandfather. Veldon loved Cowboy Artists art work, rodeo and his country. Visitation will be Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 9:30-10:00 A.M. at Lamont Mortuary Chapel, services will follow at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Young Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.
