Phyllis Marie Cunningham

d. August 27, 2013

Phyllis Marie Cunningham, age 82 of Globe, Arizona passed away August 27, 2013 at Copper Mountain Inn Nursing Home in Globe. She was the daughter of George and Dorothea (Bergerson) Grant. How can you capture in a few paragraphs the life of such a remarkable and noble soul. Phyllis’ path was one of deep spirituality, the compelling thrust of her life was manifesting unconditional love to the world. She charmed with her keen wit, wisdom and gracious humble manor. Her enthusiasm for life and learning were expressed in her unique character. Fiercely independent, a woman before her time, she was courageous enough to question old concepts and beliefs and explore new avenues of thought and expression. She had a superior mind that delighted in sharing and discussing different points of view and philosophies. By her example we were challenged to take responsibility for every word we uttered and every thought we held. Every facet of Phyllis’ being was a sharing of love, knowledge, peace and compassion. Her beautiful and courageous passing was an affirmation of her life and essence. Our tears of grieving, for we shall miss her presence on this earth, are also tears of immense love and gratitude for this beautiful woman who so freely gave of herself and her love. She was born in Rawlins, Wyoming, one of three children. She grew up on ranches in northern Colorado and attended a one room school house. She had many wonderful memories of her childhood and her high school years spent at St. Pats’ Catholic Boarding School in Nebraska. In 1949 at age 19 she married Richard LaRiviere. Her hearts desire was always to be the mother of many children. She got her wish and had eight that she loved and adored. And they loved and adored her right back. The marriage ended in 1969. She came to Globe in 1972 with her second husband and they blended families. In 1982 the strike at the mines forced a moved back to Colorado. Years later on her own again, she decided to move back to the place she felt was home…… Globe, that was 20 years ago. Her love continues on in the hearts of her eight children, and four more who would come to know her as mother, 30 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, relatives and friends in Colorado, Washington, California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oklahoma, Illinois, Iowa and Arizona. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe.
