John Edward Mitchell

John Edward Mitchell went to his eternal rest Jan 29th, 2013. He was born June 17th, 1939 in Ada, Oklahoma to John and Lossie (Yarborough) Mitchell. As an infant, the family moved to Miami, Arizona where he attended school. They moved to Wheatfields in the mid 50s. John graduated from Globe High School in 1957. In Dec. of the same year, he went to work at Kennecott Copper Company in Hayden, where he was a Boilermaker. He retired from there in 2004. John married Wanda Shedd and they divorced after 23 years of marriage. He got remarried to Dena May Goodwin and resided in Dudleyville until her death 25 years later. John was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry (Jo Ann) Mitchell of Phoenix, Ronnie (Margie) Mitchell of Globe, Joe (Linda) Mitchell of Miami, Jesse (Karen) Mitchell of Globe (Safford). Two stepdaughters Jessie and Judy Blake of Tonto Basin. John is survived by his 2 sons John Mitchell of Florence, Ronnie (Trish) Mitchell of Round Mountain, Nevada, 3 stepsons Fred (Buster) Goodwin of Kearny, David Goodwin of Dudleyville, Larry (Sheri) Goodwin of Kearny. Two stepdaughters Norma Martinez of Globe, Sue Welch of Mesa. Four natural Grandchildren Nanette Gilpin of New Mexico, William Arnold of Phoenix, Ronnie Mitchell of Florence, Megan Mitchell of Round Mountain, Nevada. Two step-Grandchildren Robert Smith of Globe, Ashley (Daniel) Curiel of Round Mountain, Nevada. Numerous Great-Grandchildren. John's life was enriched by his love of hunting and fishing. Vacation always revolved around deer season, where you could always count on a freezer full of fresh venison. He hunted with everything from Bow and Arrow to Black Powder. A family event was melting and pouring bullets for the black powder rifle. His hobbies included reloading, gun smithing for which he was very skilled. He was also known for his exceptional knife making. He gave one of his hand crafted knives to an uncle who said it was the only knife he had ever seen that could skin a moose without re-sharpening. Many friends and family are recipients of his talent. A special thank you goes out to his wonderful niece Amie Olson, who was by his side daily with her ray of sunshine smile, as she tirelessly advocated for his care and well being.
