Lillian Carrillo, beloved wife of Joe Carrillo for sixty years, passed to the presence of the Lord, January, 31, 2013. She was at home surrounded by her husband, children, nieces, god daughter, caregiver and two of her oldest and dearest friends. Lillian was a lifelong resident of Globe. She attended Noftsger Elementary School and is a graduate of Globe High School. Lillian was best known for her community and public service in Globe. She was an ardent supporter of many local organizations, including Holy Angels Catholic School & Church, the Salvation Army, Sahuaro Girl Scout Council, and American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She opened the Old Mexico Gift Shop in 1970 that featured unique and artisanal products from Mexico. In 1980, she premiered her women’s clothing boutique, The Lily Pad. In 1986, Lillian was a local leader in the Main Street Program of Arizona, which was linked to the National Main Street Program. The project was successful, as it revitalized Globe’s historic district and ensured the vitality of the area and preserve its historic heritage and buildings. In 1991, the Arizona Silver Belt, presented Lillian with its “Golden Service Award”, presented to “an area resident who has a long standing record of community service" and who has proven himself or herself as a “star” in the area of volunteerism. In 2012, Lillian was inducted into the Globe High School Hall of Fame for community service. She is survived by her husband, Joe, and children, Joseph Carrillo, MD of Napa, CA, Catherine Covarrubias of Tempe, AZ, Stephanie Larson of Mesa, AZ and three grandchildren, Andrew Larson, Jennifer Larson and Reynaldo Covarrubias, Jr. A rosary service will be held, Sunday, February 3, 2013, 7:00 PM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with family visitation beginning at 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013, 11:00 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Girl Scouts of Southern AZ, 4300 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85711. Specifically designate your contribution to the Camper Scholarship Fund for Girl Scouts from Globe, AZ, in honor of Lillian Carrillo.
