Aurelia Flores

d. January 26, 2013

On January 2, 1938, the world was blessed with the birth of Aurelie “Lillie” Pier Flores. On January 26, 2013, we all lost a beautiful soul when our lord called Lillie home to his warm embrace. Lillie was a devout Catholic her whole life and she found great comfort and strength from her faith. She was born the sixth of nine children in Molac, France. In the 1950’s Lillie traveled to the United States with her sister, Huguette, on the “USS Constitution” (which she always reminded everyone was the same ship that Princess Grace traveled on to Monaco). Joe Flores visited a restaurant near ASU where Lillie was working with her sister. Lillie’s English was just developing, so Joe romanced her in Spanish, ordering a drink called “The Flagstaff.” Lillie soon realized that she had been expecting Joe, because she had seen him in a dream while she was in France and he was handing her a flower unique to the area (cattails). They were married a few weeks later. Lillie and Joe had eight children, fourteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. They instilled strong family values, a desire for education and the knowledge of how to work as a team. Lillie loved her family and friends with her full heart. She was independent and strong willed often ahead of the women of her time, braving foreign countries and a variety of challenges. She proudly became an American citizen and valued her right to vote by voting in every election. Lillie was a selfless supporter of her children and grandchildren’s endeavors. Lillie expressed herself artistically through painting, wood carving and other various mediums; she always demonstrated an unforgettably accepting, warm nature and quick wit. Lillie’s joie de vivre (joy of life), loving nature, strong values, and playful demeanor will forever touch all who loved her. Lillie is survived by her husband Joe Flores, her children Robin and Donna Flores, Tina Flores, John Flores, Aurelie Pierrette Flores and Wayne Wisdom, David and Kristie Flores, Jacques and Bobbi Jo Flores, Daisy Flores and Timothy Trent, Bernadette Flores, all her grandchildren (Wayne, Joey, Lucas, Alexis, Pablo, Sevi, Riley, Isaac, Isabelle, Aurelie, Lacy, Aubree, Jacob and Daniel), great grandchildren (Gavin, Aurelie, Malcolm, Abigail, Micah, Benicio), her siblings (Rene Pier, Therese Mallarde, Huguette Aros, Gustave Pier and Mauricette Theitot) and the extended Flores family. Services are Saturday February 2, 2013, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with viewing at 8:30 am, Rosary at 9:30 am and Mass at 10:00 am with Burial at the Globe Cemetery. The family requests that everyone join us in a celebration of Lillie’s life at the Globe Elks Lodge immediately following the burial service.
