Frederick “Fred” W. Wurst of Globe, Arizona passed away on October 15th, 2012 at the age of 91. Fred was born on August 6th, 1921 in Summer Hill, New York. He grew up in New Jersey, and when World War II broke out, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific as a member of the first Construction Battalion (“SeaBees”). After nine years as a union carpenter, he started his own construction business in New Jersey. He found success and satisfaction in restoring old estates and building new homes. He retired to Apache Junction, Arizona in 1980, and continued to enjoy construction projects. He settled in Globe in 1984, spending most summers at the cabin he built at Rose Creek. We will miss his quick wit and lively sense of humor, and his passion for the things and people he cared about. Fred was preceded in death by his parents William and Laura, his sister Rita Jeanneret, brother William, and son Richard. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Robin; three sons, Stephen, Jonathan (Maryann), and Drew (Patricia) of New Jersey; two daughters, Melanie (Al) of Massachusetts, Laura (Thomas) of Phoenix; first wife Eleanor, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, at 11:00am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Globe. Reading was Fred’s favorite activity, especially in his later years, so contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Globe Public Library Building Fund.
