Long time Globe resident, Dorothy Marie Harbison, 86, passed away July 14, 2012. She was born in Cudahy, WI to John and Mary Kukla. She grew up on a farm and worked in war plant operating a lathe durning WWII. She and her family moved to Globe for her mother’s health when she was 18. After the bitter cold of Wisconsin, she loved the heat of Arizona. It was never too hot for Dorothy! She was employed with Mountain Bell as a switch-board operator when one night, Jim Harbison offered her and another operator a ride home. They married and later purchased Globe Hardware Co. Dorothy was a stay at home Mom until 1965 when she went to work as the bookkeeper at Globe hardware Co. After Jim retired in the mid 1980’s, Dorothy then became manager and worked there until the store was sold in 2000. When the kids were growing up, she grew a garden, canned vegetables, baked bread, and sewed clothes. Her love was her family and many pets. Western movies and books were a favorite of hers and would never pass up the opportunity to gamble. She also loved to go camping and fishing. Her constant companions were Taffy her dog and Chickie the cat, and step-dog Abbey. She is survived by her four children; Col John Harbison (Jeanne). of Fayetteville, NC, Shirley Liles (William) of Globe, AZ, Leonard Harbison (Eve) of Larkspur, CO, and Eileen Harbison of Globe, AZ. Adopted son Robert Cleland of Sacramento, CA, her sister Virginia Schultz of Payson, AZ , seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two on the way. Visitation will be Friday, July 20, 2012, at 9:30 A.M. at Lamont Mortuary Chapel, Globe, AZ Funeral services will follow at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at Globe Cemetery In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made in her name to the Globe Fire Dept. 175 N. Pine St. - Globe, AZ
