Mahlon R. Thiele (Lon) 77 passed away at Banner Boswell on Friday, January 6th. Lon was born to Fredrick Thiele and Anna Kroger on October 30th 1934 in Colman, South Dakota. Graduated from Colman High School after which he enlisted in the Army for four years, switched to the Air Force and was medically retired from the Air Force after 4 and 1/2 years. Went on to South Dakota State where he met his soul mate Jeannine Harris; the married in June of 1967. Mahlon also graduated from South Dakota State in August of 1967. They decided to move to Arizona for health reasons in 1969 with their young son Tim. The couple settled in Glendale for 11 years where Mahlon worked for Beefeaters’ Restaurant and Bailey’s Restaurant. Mahlon also worked as Ass’t Manager of Glendale Cascade Mobile Home Park. In 1980, Mahlon and his family moved to Lakeview Mobile Home Park in Roosevelt as managers. Mahlon went back to school to obtain a water and wastewater license and went to work for the U.S. Forest Service before retiring in the late 90’s. Mahlon was very active in the Kiwanis Club, Miami Booster Club, SAR’s St. Therese’s Catholic Chapel and a lifetime member of the NCOA Club. Mahlon and his wife sponsored the Roosevelt Easter Egg Hunt for 17 years and started the Christmas Food boxes and Secret Santa projects at Roosevelt. Mahlon’s joy in life was working with children and helping people down on their luck. He never judged a person; he left that was God’s job. Mahlon is preceded in death by his parents, son Anthony, brothers Frank and Leo. He is survived by his wife of 44 years. Jeannine, son Tim (Nancy) Glendale grandson Tanner and granddaughter Abigail, sister; Gladys Heinricy Colman, Laura Croon Dell Rapids, Wilma Beck Madison and Brother Lloyd Thiele (Helen) Madison and numerous Nephews and Nieces. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Miami, Arizona on Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 A.M. Lunch at Roosevelt Resort after Memorial Mass. In lieu of flowers, plants are requested or donation to: St. Therese’s Ramp – 844 W. Sullivan St. – Miami, AZ 85539. Interment will be in the National Cemetery Cave Creek, at a later date.
