Joel Michael Wheat, of Globe, Arizona, born on January 20, 1937, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Joe was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Granville Carter and Mariam Hancock Wheat the second son of four children. He was raised in Phoenix, Arizona where he attended Kenilworth Elementary, Osborn Elementary, West Phoenix High School and college. His early working years were spent in the retail industry employed by Sprouse Reitz Variety Stores and later with TG&Y Stores Company where he rapidly advanced to Vice President. In more recent years he managed retail stores for Wal-Mart including a new store in Claypool, Arizona which he opened and managed for several years until his retirement. Joe currently owns Golden Hill Apartments in Globe. He is a member of Greater Globe Miami Chamber of Commerce since 1984, as well as many other service clubs and civic organizations. His favorite pastime in retirement has been his love for the game of golf. He is a member of the Cobre Valley Community Club where in healthier days he golfed daily. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Richard. He is survived by his only son Michael. his only sister Beth, and his brother Milton.
