Elmer Klair Lowe

Elmer Klair Lowe Elmer was born in Madera, Pennsylvania July 30, 1922 to William Lowe and Hannah Jane Hutchinson. Elmer was the youngest of seven children that included Jim, Eliza, Lois, Jack, Terry and Bill ? all now deceased. Elmer was a kind and gentle man of outstanding character and quiet demeanor. An avid hunter and fisherman, he appreciated an early morning sunrise, the sound of quail calling to each other as they scurry along, a flash of a brook trout as it takes a fly in a small mountain stream, the call of a bull elk in late September, or an evening sunset tinged with brilliant shades of pinks, purple, yellow and orange. Elmer?s career in the Navy began in November, 1940. Culminating as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, Elmer received numerous decorations associated with the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. He married Dorothy Naymick in 1944. Dorothy died in 1965. By then Elmer retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. He then went to work for the US Government as a chief building engineer for several US Government buildings in Washington, D.C.. Through very humble beginnings as a boy growing up in Pennsylvania, life was tough. At the dinner table, the first ones to sit down to eat were the ones who brought in the highest wages. As the youngest, Elmer often went with whatever was left. But he learned to hunt and fish and helped keep food on his families table. Elmer also trapped and once sold his pelts in the spring-time and gave all the money to his Mother. She gave him back a nickel for the picture show. Elmer quietly and proudly stated that he ate first that night. Elmer was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church. He was married to Imogene Keller in 1968 by the late Pastor Ellsworth Campbell. As the Chief Engineer of the Miami-Inspiration Hospital, he directed efforts associated with keeping an integral hospital in top condition until his retirement in 1982. In 2006, Elmer politely informed the St. Paul?s congregation that he was retiring as the dishwasher. As a pilot, Elmer held a multi-engine rating and enjoyed flying. Elmer was married to Jean Lowe for 42 happy years. Children include Jean Mills of Bowie, Maryland, Gary Keller of Safford, AZ and Michael Keller of Mesa, AZ. Seven grandchildren ( Chris, Brian, Karen, Kevin, Mark, Joyce and Cody), four great-grandchildren (Garrett, PJ, Violet and Grace)and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the St. Paul?s Lutheran Church on Sunday, 09 January, 2011. Church services will be canceled on that day in order to celebrate the Lord?s acceptance of our loved one. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Paul?s Lutheran Church for a memorial in Elmer?s name. Elmer Klair Lowe ? Born: July 30, 1922 ? Died: December 31, 2010 ?
